Five Northwest Filmmakers To Interview for Production Grant

Seattle, WA (October 7, 2010) – The IFP/Seattle today announced the five finalists for this year’s Spotlight Award, a production grant featuring thousands of dollars of in-kind goods and services from the leading Northwest production companies. This year’s finalists are:

“Forced Entry” from Joe Jacobs
“Going Home” from Justin Burris McGowan
“It’s For You” from Laura Jean Cronin
“Outside Experts” from Ilona Rossman Ho
“Pretty Face and Green My Eyes” from Sam Graydon

Each finalist and the principals from his / her production team will be interviewed by a panel of industry experts and the winner will be announced at a public event on November 10^th. Details about the event to follow.

Caroline Colon, IFP/Seattle Board Member and Programming Director: “The IFP Spotlight award is a centerpiece of our programming. This unique grant program allows filmmakers the opportunity to build on a solid script by getting access to top-notch equipment and resources to support them in the creative process. The result is a professional short film that showcases the talent of the Northwest."

Past award winners include Tim Watkins’ “Photo Booth” (currently in production), “Night Blind” from Robert Parks, “Dry Rain” from Matthew Clark, starring James LeGros, Cheryl Slean’s “Diggers,” Dan Brown’s animated “Pierre” and John Helde’s “Hello,” starring Eric Stoltz.

This year’s IFP/Seattle Spotlight Award is being sponsored by: Alpha Cine Labs, Clatter + Din, Eastman Kodak, Ken Coble – Location Scout, Lance Rosen, Modern Digital, Oppenheimer Cine Rental and Seattle Grip and Lighting.

By popular demand we have pushed the deadline for script submissions for the Spotlight Award until Tuesday, 9/14.

Stay tuned for a future announcement about a submission party, where you will be able to turn in your script in person and have a drink with us.

IFP/Seattle announces the 2010 Spotlight Award Applications

IFP/Seattle is pleased to announce that scripts are being accepted for the 8th annual IFP/Seattle Spotlight Awards. Applications can be found on the IFP/Seattle Spotlight Award page.

A unique program, the IFP/Seattle Spotlight Award grants one filmmaker with in-kind goods and services to produce a short film on 35mm or 16mm.

IFP/Seattle is committed to fostering a strong base of Northwest filmmakers with education, programs and grants that fuel the careers of local talent. Through the Spotlight Award, talented local filmmakers can showcase their work and prove themselves for feature filmmaking. Past winners of the Spotlight Award have won numerous awards for their films. Previous winners have included:

Cheryl Slean - ‘Diggers’
Mathew Clark – ‘Dry Rain’

IFP Film+ Production Insurance - learn how to properly CYA!

Kathy England and Scott Taylor will be discussing production insurance and conducting a question and answer session with attendees.

The goal of the seminar is to make the production community aware of the current pricing for production insurance, some new coverage enhancements that are available, the budget dollar amount on which the production insurance premium should be calculated and what is happening in the errors and omissions insurance world.

Producers, Directors, Production Managers, Production Company owners and Equipment owners, this is your chance to ask questions about insurance!

Kathy and Scott both represent Taylor & Taylor Associates, Inc. with offices in New York and Los Angeles. Kathy has some thirty years of experience insuring independent feature films and Scott insures a majority of the television commercial production companies in the United States.

They always say you never know how good your insurance coverage is until you have a claim! The evening will be filled with examples of claims whereby the client’s expectations were met and other examples of claims where they were not – make sure you don’t make a mistake you could have avoided!

IFP Film+ Event February 16th, 2010 - The Phantom: High Speed Digital Cinematography

High speed cinematography, shooting beyond 150 fps, has always been elusive to filmmakers due to the high cost and cumbersome camera packages. With the advent of digital cinematography, a new system has emerged as an economical option while still performing high speed feats of magic. Imagine shooting at frame rates in excess of 1000fps?! All of a sudden, a common occurrence that lasts milliseconds can now span nearly 30 seconds.

The Phantom Gold by Vision Research will be the focus of this month's IFP Film+ event. Leading cinematographers and assistants from the NW will be on hand to discuss their experiences with the Phantom, share clips shot on the Phantom and a little hands on time with the system. This event is brought to you by IFP Seattle, Koerner Camera, Superfad and Vision Research.
